In two short decades, DNA sequencing has moved from a nascent, expensive process to an affordable, approachable commodity.
ISB Senior Research Engineer Christopher Lausted and Lincoln High School Teacher Dr. Danielle Vermaak, a husband-and-wife team, worked with ISB Education on a curriculum project aimed at bringing modern DNA sequencing to the biology classroom. The pilot project was tested in Vermaak’s Lincoln High School classroom.
Lausted and Vermaak were the featured guests of an ISB Research Roundtable presentation. You can learn all about the preparation and rollout of the curriculum project, how Vermaak’s students were thrilled to be “real scientists,” and what is coming next with the project by going here or hitting play on the video above.
Sara Calder recently joined ISB as Systems Health and STEM Coordinator, and is our second-ever AmeriCorps member. In this Q&A, Calder shares her education journey, her future plans, and much more.
